What lies ahead for aesthetics in photography and the visual arts in general?

Our society is changing at such a rapid pace like never before in human history. Technological advances have changed our lives in almost all areas, it has not only changed the way we view the world and how we interact with our world but is also changing our values and aesthetics along with it. 

The question here is : will the emerging art forms and visual aesthetics evolve as a natural evolutionary process? Or will new aesthetics values be born out of a world that has changed so rapidly that the evolutionary process in visual arts is turned on its head?

What if Hans Holbein the Younger was a photographer?

We might all be familiar with Hans Holbein the Younger from his vivid portraits of Henry the VIII and other figures from that time and with portraits of Erasmus and Sir Thomas More for example. But what actually intrigued me were his witty drawings related to Erasmus’s book “In Praise of Folly” 1506. It is not only the draughtsmanship talent that he exhibited from an early age, but the projection of the world around him, the understanding of its complexity and the satirical critique of the elite class at the time, not to mention the bravery to criticise and mock the elite, the clergy.

It might seem ludicrous to put a medieval artist behind a lens and try to anticipate the images, but as always if is a fun experiment.

What if Picasso was a photographer?

How would one of the most monumental figures in arts in the 20th century view the world through a lens? Is it even remotely possible to imagine the outcomes of his photographic portraits?

It is quite difficult to try to summarise a photographic work of an artist whose work is so different in between his artistic periods ( Cubism, African influenced, blue and pink period and so on ).

What if Woody Allen was a photographer?

A series on various historic and prominent figures and how would they see the world if they were photographers.

How would he capture an urban scene? Perhaps his photographic work will have some resemblance of Martin Parr’s satirical and anthropological approach, but may differ in terms of the complexity of the scenes. What would Woody Allen‘s monologue style of presentation, that he is known for, be like when converted to photographic frames ?
